Wicca - Splended Deed (Re-release)
Bleeding Chainsaw Records / Nerbilous

file under speed / thrash metal

Wicca - Splended DeedTormentor Erich: If you look for Wicca at YouTube you will find an awful lot of videos about witchcraft, which is kind of logical of course. But what I needed (a clip or live performance by these German thrashers) was not available. No YouTube clip, and a band that was unknown to me, it might tell us something about the popularity of this band, but it doesn’t mean that the quality of the album stinks.

On this re-release from ‘Splended Deed’ you can hear nine tracks which already saw the light of day on vinyl in 1989. The digital re-mastering for CD is done quite alright and it sounds okay, but most of all it is the music that does the trick. Wicca can not just be called the next “typical eighties thrash metal re-release”. Of course, the main part of the album is formed by speed and thrash metal, but there are also some hardcore and punk elements in the songs that keep it all nice and fresh. Let me explain it to you in another way: every time when I listened to ‘Splended Deed’ my mind wandered back to the ‘Stars On Thrash’ sampler album by Roadrunner, released in 1988. On this album you can find acts like Mucky Pup, D.R.I., Toxik, Paradox, Acrophet, Sacred Reich, Znowhite and Atrophy, and if you make a big pile from all of these bands, Wicca will fit in also, capiche?

Okay, just for the record I can also tell you that the song ‘Trommelbass’ is only a filler, the bonus track ‘Sad Song’ sounds sad because of the raw rehearsal mix and the beginning from ‘Pull Down The Wall’ is probably meant as a link to another band. I had an enjoyable time with this album, how about you?
